    Speaker: Dr. Rick Ringer, Professor and Director of the Organizational Leadership Institution of Illinois State University.


    This session will focus on a key leadership skill:  holding crucial conversations.  Crucial conversations refer to those conversations in which:

    • The stakes are high, and at least one of the participants faces the possibility of “loss”,
    • Opinions and perspectives about the issue/situation vary, and 
    • Emotions are strong.

    The session will offer insights and perspectives regarding how participants can be more effective in holding crucial conversations.


    Recertification credits available! 

    • 1 hour general HRCI
    • 1 SHRM professional development credit (PDC)

    Featured Topic: Workplace Trends for 2021 and Beyond

    Speaker: Sonal Shah, JD, Senior Employment Counsel at HR Source.

    The past year has seen significant changes in the employment landscape, whether from our legislatures, courts, state and federal agencies, as a result of the pandemic, or through the expectations of our employees. What changes can we expect to see in the next year and beyond?

    In this session, Sonal Shah, JD, Senior Employment Counsel, will discuss what’s on the horizon, including more remote and flexible work options, paid parental leave and family planning benefits, improved efforts to increase diversity and fairness, and corporate wellness initiatives.

    Specific learning objectives:

    Attendees will learn what’s on the horizon in the HR field so they can prepare and plan for the future. They will learn what employers are starting to do and employees starting to expect in the workplace in regards to flexible work options, diversity, inclusion and equity initiatives, parental leave and family planning benefits and corporate wellness benefits.  We will discuss what the law requires, what is best practice and ways companies can bring these trends into their own workplace.
