MEETING TOPIC:  Cultural Competence: Stereotypes, Myths, and Misconceptions

It can be difficult to truly relate to the prejudice and discrimination that many experience on a regular basis. It is also very challenging to face our own biases that can interfere with our ability to support others through these experiences. This session will lead attendees in candid conversations to allow for personal growth and increased cultural competency. The group will explore current events, stereotypes, myths, and misconceptions we have about each other and ourselves.

After attending this session, you will be able to:

  • interact more effectively with people of different cultures.
  • describe the stereotypes and myths that exist about different cultural groups.
  • provide appropriate responses and support to colleagues using increased self-awareness.

RE-CERTIFICATION CREDITS AVAILABLE! 1 hour general HRCI and 1 hour SHRM
