EVENTS

BNHRC provides monthly programming opportunities for members and guests to network with local professionals, learn more about HR-related topics, and earn SHRM and HRCI recertification credits!  Our monthly chapter events are typically held in person on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic will meet virtually. 

Current BNHRC members and previous guests will receive email communications regarding any new events. Click here to subscribe to our event announcement listing!

Registration is required for all BNHRC events in advance of the event. Registration costs for monthly luncheons are included in annual membership dues. Guests will be charged any applicable fees at time of registration. We encourage you to have payment information ready before completing registration. If payment is not provided during registration, an invoice will be sent to the email address provided and payment must be received by the registration deadline. Please review our event payment policies for more information.

    Featured Topic: The Truth About Microaggressions

    Speaker: Angell Howard, Coordinator of Professional Development and Staff Training Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs

    Microaggressions are brief, everyday exchanges that send hurtful and demeaning messages to the individuals being aggressed. Research has shown that consistently experiencing microaggressions can be psychologically and physically draining. No one should have to feel this way, so this session will help participants understand what microaggressions look and sound like.


    This session will help participants to:

    • Understand the different forms of microaggressions and how they manifest
    • Determine the safest and most effective ways to address microaggressions
    • Learn different action steps to take to respond to these situations effectively


    RE-CERTIFICATION CREDITS AVAILABLE! 

    • 1 hour general HRCI credit 
    • 1 SHRM PDC

    Featured Topic: Crucial Conversations

    Speaker: Dr. Rick Ringer, Professor and Director of the Organizational Leadership Institution of Illinois State University.

    This session will focus on a key leadership skill:  holding crucial conversations.  Crucial conversations refer to those conversations in which:

    • 1.   The stakes are high, and at least one of the participants faces the possibility of “loss”
    • 2.   Opinions and perspectives about the issue/situation vary
    • 3.   Emotions are strong

    The result if that there is fear/anxiety associated with crucial conversations because of the possibility of intense conflict, anger, personal attacks, and the loss of psychological safety.

    The session will offer insights and perspectives regarding how participants can be more effective in holding crucial conversations.

    Specific learning objectives:

    What will attendees learn as a result of attending?

    What are the take-aways?

    Why is this presentation important for HR professionals to attend?

    Participants should learn

    • 1.   Why having crucial conversations matters
    • 2.   The key individual/organizational attributes that contribute to healthy/productive conversations
